Sue Monk Kidd was born and raised in the tiny town of Sylvester, Georgia, which is tucked among the pinelands and red fields of Southwest Georgia, a place she has lovingly referred to it as “an enduring somewhere.” Her writing has been deeply influenced by place, and she mined her experiences of growing up in Sylvester as she wrote The Secret Life of Bees, her first novel.
About the book- Sue writes a remarkable story about a young girls journey into finding a truth. A truth about her mother, and what happened to her. She tells about how black and white skinned people can see past the bitterness of societies prejudice beliefs. Sue also shows us in her story how one can find a true matronly love with more than just one person. You will read about a girl even though she is abused and hated by her father, still holds onto a belief that some day her father will show her the smallest sign that he does love her.
Sue tells us through out the story all about Bee keeping which is very interesting. I laughed out loud many times while reading this book. I frowned many times also. I will admit that I did have to read the first couple of pages a few times to get through Sue`s way of introducing her readers to the Bee's. I totally look forward to Sue`s other writings.
WomensSelfEsteem.com's Review- The Secret Life Of Bees is a beautifully written story that will create a wonderful buzz in your head that will be hard to forget for a very long time.
